Springs Fire in Southern California Reaches 45% Containment

Crews responded to a vegetation fire in San Marcos, which prompted the evacuation of several homes and a college in the area.
Springs Fire initially started 11:01 a.m. April 3 on Gilman Springs Road, East of Moreno Valley in Riverside County, California. Since its discovery 31 hours ago, it has burned 4,176 acres. A fire crew of 147 has been working on site and, by Saturday evening, they managed to contain 95% of the fire. The cause is, however, still being investigated.
Strong winds are fueling the explosion of the Springs Fire in Southern California, with evacuations ordered and thousands of acres already scorched.
As of Saturday morning, 260 personnel were assigned to the Springs Fire, including the deployment of two helicopters and 36 fire engines. Including Cal Fire, assisting crews include city fire departments from Hemet, Riverside, Palm Springs, Idyllwild and Corona, as well as Pechanga and Morongo.
